MexArt programs are cultural immersion programs set in the picturesque mountain town of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.  San Miguel is a art haven for Mexicans and foreigners who come to enjoy the music festivals, the theaters, the art schools, as well as to study Spanish. The spectacular beauty and charm of San Miguel and the year-round perfect climate have been attracting Americans for the past 50 years.

At MexArt, teens develop skills in artistic fields, practice and study Spanish, make life-long friendships with students from around the world, and experience the vibrancy of Mexico!  Experienced staff provide supervision within a structured program to ensure that students maximize the learning experiences and safety.

Art Program:  Students choose one "focus" art area from the following:  painting, drawing, ceramics, photography,  printmaking, color &design, welding, and silver jewelry.  Students also choose one or two electives: creative writing, community service, printmaking, painting, ceramics, drawing, and metal sculpture and jewelry.

Dance Program: Students take jazz, hip hop, modern, and some ballet during 3-hour morning classes and continue with different styles of dance in the afternoon: salsa, flamenco, contact improv. Students also teach a dance class to local children as a community service project.

General Info:  Upon arrival, orientation familiarizes participants with the geography of the town and with the program routines. MexArt is guaranteed to provide an education in art, Spanish, and local culture.  During session II, there is a special optional program for parents who would like to participate in art or Spanish courses during the first week.  Classes and housing for the "Adult Camp" are separate from the student program.  This is a non-invasive way to ensure your child has arrived and settled safely.

Eligibility: MexArt participants are mature students. An interest in art/dance and Spanish are required, however skill levels in each art/dance area and in Spanish vary.  There are NO prerequisites. Admission and registration is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications with a deposit are processed promptly and a space is reserved; however, a student is not officially accepted into the program until the student's application and essay have been thoroughly reviewed.
