Carly Cross bought the property located at Calzada de la Aurora no. 48 in February of 2003. Casa Crayola's seven casitas were built in a record-breaking 4 months with Carly's house and the garden built and planted the four months following. Building and renovating in San Miguel is a mixture of a creative high and frustrating low. Almost anything is possible here, if you know how to explain it.... With an architectural plan in hand, construction began, only to make constant changes as ideas sparked. The main building had to be completely renovated and retrofitted with columns and beams. The other structures previously on the property, a casita and a roof shelter, had to be torn down and the new casitas built from scratch. In the property's "past life" it had been a family home, a garden restaurant, a neighborhood parking lot, and a kindergarten. |
